A very common idea held by people is that metal detectors are instruments that only serious and professional treasure hunters should use. This is probably because TV culture has, for a long time, been successful in portraying these devices as the main tool for those who are in search of treasures, whether these are buried in the ground or sunken along with the ships carrying these. With this, there is a persistent idea that to make money with the use of these devices is only possible through highly expensive expeditions. However, this isn’t true exactly as metal detectors have been used to generate income even without treasure hunting.

Aside from cleaning the shore, these beachcombers also help to locate missing items. Aside from being paid for this job, they are allowed to own any metallic valuable which nobody claims. Another way to earn from this would be to rent out the device to archeologists and to archeology students. These individuals usually use it to find metallic relics or artifacts which may aid them in their studies. For these people the metal detector is on the same level of importance as their books, magnifying glasses and computers. If not for the device they would more likely end up finding nothing and having no story to tell. Finding the relics allow them to construct the facts and discover history.

Some people even use it merely for fun in the outdoors while they earn money from it. While they walk in the forest, they can use the device on certain areas which they suspect to have metallic objects buried deep. Many people have found their fortune through this alone. They didn’t discover a treasure chest filled with metal treasures though. What they found are large deposits of metals. A mining firm would surely take interest in this discovery and the person who can lead them to these locations will be given a huge reward.
